Zenit Leads Russian Football Teams in Spending for 2024

Zenit St. Petersburg has emerged as the top spender among Russian football clubs in 2024, with total liabilities exceeding 12.7 billion rubles, a record for the Russian Premier League (RPL). Despite these significant expenses, the club managed to close the year with a pre-tax profit of 137.8 million rubles.

The data, published by the Russian Football Union (RFU), reveals that Zenit also generated the highest income, surpassing 25 billion rubles. Krasnodar followed with 16.2 billion rubles in revenue, while Dynamo secured the third position with 10.8 billion rubles.

Krasnodar, the reigning champion of Russia, demonstrated superior financial efficiency, reporting a profit of over 13 billion rubles. This was achieved through more prudent spending, despite lower overall revenues compared to Zenit.

A key factor contributing to Zenit’s financial situation is its transfer policy, with the club incurring a loss of nearly 3.8 billion rubles on player transfers alone. This represents the largest loss in this category across the entire RPL.

Despite an unsuccessful season and failure to secure the championship title, the Zenit Board of Directors decided to maintain the current management team. The primary objective for the upcoming season is to reclaim the championship.

Zenit experienced growth in matchday revenue, earning 1.8 billion rubles, second only to Spartak. This figure surpasses pre-pandemic levels from 2019, even with the suspension from European competitions and the introduction of Fan ID.
