Yekaterinburg Residents Fight Bad Parking with Cat Litter and Garbage Bags

Residents in Yekaterinburg are using cat litter and garbage bags to deter drivers from blocking access to their apartment buildings and parking lots. The incidents occurred at buildings located at 7 and 5 Amundsen Street.

The parking situation at these high-rise buildings is challenging due to limited and narrow spaces. Improperly parked vehicles can obstruct emergency services from reaching building entrances.

On the morning of June 11, residents took matters into their own hands. One driver, whose Lada blocked the parking lot exit, had the contents of a cat litter box dumped on their car. Additionally, garbage bags were piled up around vehicles parked illegally at the turn into the yard.

According to a resident, the car owners were not particularly bothered by the situation. One woman in a pink Exeed reportedly threw the garbage bag onto the asphalt despite nearby bins. The resident commented that those who park inconsiderately likely live in a similar manner.

This is not an isolated incident, as similar measures have been used elsewhere in Yekaterinburg to address parking issues. In Akademichesky, a car was previously doused with red paint as a form of punishment for uncivilized parking. Disputes and even violent altercations have also arisen due to parking problems near new buildings in the city.

With the arrival of spring, residents are also dealing with drivers parking their cars on lawns, sparking further debate on how to address the issue.
