Russia and Ukraine conducted another prisoner exchange on June 14, 2025, resulting in the return of Russian servicemen from Ukrainian territory. In exchange, Ukraine received prisoners from its armed forces, as reported by TASS, citing the Russian Ministry of Defense.
Among those released was one fighter from the Sverdlovsk region, specifically a resident of Yekaterinburg. Regional ombudsman Tatyana Merzlyakova expressed particular joy at his return, noting he had been held captive since 2023.
Merzlyakova also mentioned the beginning of a sanitary exchange of wounded individuals, although no fellow countrymen were yet on the lists for this exchange. She thanked all participants in the Istanbul negotiation process, emphasizing the value of every fighter.
The exchange took place within the framework of the Istanbul agreements, initiating indefinite sanitary exchanges between Russia and Ukraine. On June 12, it was reported that five Ural residents had been returned from Ukrainian captivity.
The exchange agreement was initially reached during direct Russian-Ukrainian negotiations in Istanbul, marking the first such meeting in three years. Lists for the exchange were shared by both parties, it became known on May 22.
