Yekaterinburg Resident Opens Sewing Courses for Children

Olga Ilyinykh, a Yekaterinburg resident, runs sewing courses called “IONik” for children, where they learn to create their own clothing. The courses focus on instilling a love for sewing in children through simple techniques, and the creations range from T-shirts and blouses to dresses and even clothes for family members. Ilyinykh hopes to showcase the children’s work through fashion shows in the future.

Ilyinykh, who also runs a business in windows and doors, considers the sewing courses a hobby, with parental fees covering the rent of the studio. She provides a supportive environment where children of various nationalities can explore their creativity. The sewing courses started after Ilyinykh helped her son with a school project.

The courses teach children practical sewing skills while encouraging creativity. The children also learn about safety precautions when working with sewing machines. Designers donate fabric scraps for the children to use, allowing them to experiment without fear of ruining expensive materials.

While some children sell their creations to friends, Ilyinykh does not intend to turn the courses into a business. She emphasizes the difference between a seamstress and a tailor, encouraging the children to aspire to be tailors and designers. Ilyinykh ultimately aims to inspire children to express their individuality through fashion.
