Yekaterinburg Resident Arrested for Displaying Prohibited Symbols

A Yekaterinburg court has sentenced 28-year-old Kirill Minabutdinov to a special detention center for publicly displaying prohibited symbols, specifically a swastika tattoo. The ruling was made under Article 20.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation, which addresses the propaganda or public display of Nazi paraphernalia or symbols of extremist organizations.

During the court proceedings, Minabutdinov attempted to evade responsibility by claiming mental illness. However, the court considered a previous forensic psychiatric examination that confirmed his sanity.

It was revealed that this is not Minabutdinov’s first offense. He was repeatedly prosecuted in 2019 for petty theft and previously faced administrative arrest for promoting extremist paraphernalia.

This case follows similar incidents in the Yekaterinburg area. Petr Kolesov, head of the Uralmash mixed martial arts club “Two-Headed Eagle,” was recently sentenced to 12 days in a special detention center. Additionally, individuals were jailed for drawing swastikas and making death threats and, last fall, 15 students were expelled from a Ural college for posing with a swastika in a photograph.
