A woman in Novosibirsk has been sentenced to one year in prison for causing the death of her infant daughter by negligence. The regional Investigative Committee and Prosecutor’s Office announced the sentencing, which stems from an incident that occurred on May 1, 2025.
The 40-year-old woman, while intoxicated, fell asleep in her apartment in the Oktyabrsky district, leaving her two young children unsupervised. The investigation revealed that her four-year-old son assisted his seven-month-old sister in getting into the bathroom.
The young boy then opened the hot water tap and blocked the drain. As a result, the bathtub filled with water, leading to the infant’s drowning.
The woman was found guilty under Part 1 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, “Causing death by negligence,” and will serve her sentence in a penal settlement. This incident follows a previous case in the Novosibirsk region where a man was convicted of murdering his ex-wife and making death threats, receiving a strict regime colony sentence.
