A woman has been handed a suspended sentence for attempting to smuggle undeclared jewelry worth over six million rubles from Milan to St. Petersburg.
The North-Western Transport Prosecutor’s Office announced on June 4th that the court found the woman guilty and sentenced her to two years and six months of imprisonment, suspended with a probationary period of three years.
The incident took place in the winter of 2021 when the Russian woman arrived in St. Petersburg from Milan without declaring the jewelry.
The undeclared items included gold earrings and a pendant with a charm, all adorned with diamonds.
The jewelry, valued at more than six million rubles, was seized and designated as state revenue.
The United Press Service of the St. Petersburg Courts reported that the woman is now obligated to adhere to specific conditions during her probationary period.
These conditions include not changing her permanent residence or employment without informing the Federal Penitentiary Service inspector.
Furthermore, she is required to report to the inspector for registration at designated times.
