A woman who drifted nearly two kilometers from shore on an inflatable mattress in the Gulf of Finland was rescued by fishermen. The incident occurred near the “Dunes” beach on Monday around 7 p.m.
The fishermen spotted the woman in open water and realized she was in distress. The wind, which was blowing from the shore towards the Gulf, had carried her away.
The woman admitted that she could not swim and was unable to return to shore on her own. She explained that she had been talking on the phone and did not realize how far she had drifted. When she tried to paddle back with her hands, she was unsuccessful.
The fishermen assisted the woman in transferring from the mattress to their boat. She was then handed over to rescuers.
