Woman Dies in Belgorod Region Following Drone Attack

A woman in the Belgorod region of Russia has died after a drone strike destroyed her home. The incident occurred amidst a series of Ukrainian drone attacks targeting several Russian regions.

The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that its air defense systems intercepted a total of 162 Ukrainian drones overnight from June 1st to June 2nd. The ministry specified the regions targeted, with 57 drones downed over the Kursk region, 31 over the Belgorod region, 27 over the Lipetsk region, 16 over the Voronezh region, and 11 each over the Bryansk and Ryazan regions. Additional drones were reportedly intercepted over the Oryol and Tambov regions, as well as Crimea.

Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov announced the fatality on his Telegram channel, stating that a private house in the village of Proletarsky, Rakityansky district, was completely destroyed by a direct hit from a shell. Rescue workers recovered the woman’s body from under the rubble.

A 12-year-old girl who was nearby at the time of the attack sustained injuries and was hospitalized with a concussion. She was reportedly riding a bicycle near the house when the incident occurred.

Authorities are urging residents to take precautions if they spot a drone. The most important step is to immediately call 112. When reporting a drone sighting, individuals should provide their name, address, and a detailed description of the drone, including whether it is hovering or flying, its silhouette, the type of flashing light it has, and the sound it makes. Residents are also advised to leave the area where the drone was discovered and warn others if possible. If a drone is found on the ground, it should not be approached or touched under any circumstances. Instead, authorities should be contacted immediately by calling 112 to report the find.
