A 24-year-old St. Petersburg resident has been detained for allegedly burning her passport and posting a video of the act online. Irina Volk, an official representative of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, confirmed the arrest on June 16.
Police report that the woman intentionally destroyed her passport, recording the act on video. Authorities are also working to identify an acquaintance who was present during the incident.
The legal ramifications of the woman’s actions are currently being assessed. Officials are determining the appropriate charges and further legal procedures to be taken.
This incident follows a previous case in St. Petersburg where a woman allegedly defiled her passport and was filmed by a friend. Both individuals were detained and placed in a pre-trial detention center, facing criminal charges for hooliganism and desecration of the Russian Federation’s coat of arms.
