What is known about the scandal in a Khimki residential complex

A pregnant woman in Khimki, Moscow region, sustained injuries and pregnancy complications following a dispute with a neighbor in her apartment building. The incident, which occurred on May 17th, reportedly began over space in an elevator.

According to the victim’s husband, Andrey, the family possesses security camera footage and medical documentation to support their claims, but they allege the police have not responded to their reports.

The confrontation unfolded when Maria, who was six months pregnant, was entering an elevator with her three-year-old son and his bicycle. A couple entered the elevator, and an argument ensued between Maria and the woman, identified as Elena (name changed). Andrey claims that Elena aggressively demanded that the child move, even though the footage allegedly shows he was not obstructing anyone.

The footage purportedly shows Elena stomping on Maria’s foot. Maria retaliated with a slap, which led to Elena allegedly attacking her, pulling her hair, and hitting her. Andrey stated that Elena’s husband attempted to restrain her but was unsuccessful in preventing the assault. Other men present in the elevator did not intervene.

Maria reported that she informed Elena that she was pregnant and asked for help. Neighbors who heard her cries reportedly came to assist and are willing to provide testimony. Andrey stated that Elena continued to strike Maria even after it was clear she was pregnant. When the elevator reached the first floor, Elena and her husband fled.

Maria sustained injuries including a broken lip, scratches, torn hair, and bruises. She required immediate medical attention.

Upon arrival at the hospital, Maria was diagnosed with hypertonicity of the uterus, a condition that can lead to pregnancy loss or premature birth. Her son was prescribed sedatives due to the trauma of witnessing the event.

Elena stated that Maria stepped on her foot before the confrontation began and claims that she was struck first. She has filed a counter-report with the police and intends to sue media outlets that reported on the incident.

Legal expert Vladimir Postanyuk explained that the consequences for those involved depend on the details surrounding the quarrel and the extent of the injuries.
