A water fountain erupted near a residential area in Novosibirsk on June 5th, causing damage to nearby businesses and prompting a swift response from the Siberian Generating Company (SGK). The incident occurred around 11:00 AM near 11 Andrien Lezhena Street, where SGK had been conducting repair work for several days.
The eruption, which sent stones flying through the air, resulted in broken windows in at least one store. An employee of a business located in a shopping pavilion at 14/1 Andrien Lezhena Street reported seeing a powerful stream of water and stones impacting their windows. While their establishment sustained no major damage, the adjacent store suffered three broken windows and flooding. The shopping pavilion houses a variety of businesses, including a supermarket, pharmacy, and several food stores.
SGK attributed the incident to a defect on the heating network near house number 9 that occurred during hydraulic testing, which caused water to escape to the surface. The damaged section of the network has been shut down, and repair work is underway.
SGK has stated that the company’s liability for any damages resulting from the incident is insured. This is not the first time pipes on Andrien Lezhena Street have burst. A significant accident in November 2024 led to a shutdown of heat to 50 buildings.
