Water Damage at Vnukovo Airport and Moscow Metro Due to Severe Weather

Vnukovo Airport experienced water damage to the roof of its passenger terminal, resulting in a flood. This incident led to adjustments in the schedules of several flights.

The airport’s press service confirmed that all airport services are operating in an enhanced mode to address the situation and minimize disruptions. Departures to destinations including Almaty, Syktyvkar, Perm, Pskov, St. Petersburg, Yerevan, and Monastir are currently facing delays.

Due to adverse weather conditions, the commanders of three aircraft destined for Vnukovo chose to divert to alternative airports, according to Rosaviatsia.

The severe weather also impacted the Moscow metro system, where Komsomolskaya station experienced flooding. Water poured from the ceiling into the underground lobby, affecting transfer areas.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations for the capital issued a warning of intensifying bad weather in Moscow on June 8, forecasting very heavy rain, thunderstorms, and potential tornado formation until 21:08. Wind gusts are expected to reach 20–25 m/s.

Eyewitness reports indicated that lightning struck the Ostankino Tower, but officials later confirmed that the strike did not disrupt the tower’s operations.
