An eight-year-old boy in St. Petersburg sustained injuries after a two-meter-tall wardrobe fell on him in the entrance hall of his apartment building. The incident occurred in the Vyborgsky district, leaving the child with bruises to his back and head.
The boy’s father reported the incident, which took place at house number 10 on Khudozhnikov Street. According to him, his wife discovered their son trapped under the wardrobe around 7:30 p.m.
The child was taken to the hospital, where doctors diagnosed a contusion of the soft tissues of the head, a graze on the eyelid, and a lumbar spine injury. He is currently recovering at home with painkillers.
The father explained that his son was going to put his bicycle away when the wardrobe fell on him. The wardrobe, apparently left in the entrance hall after a move, seemed unstable, with makeshift supports underneath.
The boy is reportedly in shock and unable to fully explain how the incident occurred. His father believes the wardrobe fell flat on him, causing injuries to his lower back and head.
The father contacted the police immediately after the incident, but no officers arrived at the scene. He filed a statement with the police the following morning, but no action has been taken.
The parents have been unable to identify the owner of the abandoned wardrobe. They reached out to residents in their building’s group chat, but those who recently moved in denied ownership and offered no apology.
