Voronezh Woman on Trial for Abandoning Toddler

Alevtina S. is on trial in Voronezh for allegedly abandoning her young daughter, Vika, for four days, leaving the child to fend for herself in an apartment. The incident came to light when neighbors discovered the girl, who is not yet three years old, alone and in distress. The case has sparked public outrage and drawn attention to the circumstances surrounding the child’s upbringing.

Neighbors found Vika after neighborhood children spotted her unclothed in a window. The girl, unable to properly speak, had reportedly survived by eating sugar and drinking from the toilet. Residents rescued her, providing food and contacting authorities, leading to the discovery that Alevtina had been absent for four days.

Upon her return, Alevtina allegedly showed little remorse, shocking neighbors with her apparent indifference. Neighbors indicated Alevtina allegedly said she expected to find her daughter dead upon her return.

The case gained national attention when it was featured on a television program. Alevtina’s mother, Olga F., defended her daughter, suggesting she was influenced by others, while other reports alleged Alevtina was involved in prostitution. The program revealed a complex family history, including Alevtina giving birth at 16 and her mother’s partner being imprisoned for sexual relations with a minor.

Vika is currently under the care of the Ramonsky Social Rehabilitation Center for Children. While adoption is not yet possible due to Alevtina not being officially stripped of her parental rights, reports indicate the girl is thriving and adjusting well to her new environment.

Alevtina is currently in pre-trial detention on suspicion of attempted murder. She has partially admitted guilt, denying any intention to kill her daughter. Her detention is set to last until at least December 22, as the investigation continues.
