Vladimir Putin proposes “Children’s Book Card” program and new holiday

President Vladimir Putin has proposed a new initiative to provide families with preschoolers a “Children’s Book Card” valued at 3,000 rubles to improve access to children’s literature. He announced the proposal at a Council meeting focused on supporting the Russian language and the languages of the peoples of the Russian Federation.

Putin emphasized that books are essential for education and family traditions. He specified that each child between the ages of three and six would receive a card upon turning three, highlighting the importance of this support for large families.

Additionally, Putin suggested establishing a new holiday called the Day of Languages of the Peoples of Russia, to be celebrated annually on September 8, coinciding with the birthday of Rasul Gamzatov, the author of the renowned poem “Cranes.”

Putin noted that Gamzatov considered both Avar and Russian his native languages, acknowledging that the Avar language was his creative language while Russian allowed his work to gain global recognition.
