Over 9,000 violations related to the use of rented electric scooters have been recorded in St. Petersburg over the past three months. The City Parking Management Center reported these figures on June 2nd, highlighting a range of infractions committed by scooter users.
The most common violation involves riders failing to dismount while crossing pedestrian crossings, accounting for 7,765 cases. This indicates a widespread disregard for pedestrian safety regulations among scooter users.
Following closely behind is the practice of riding electric scooters with two or three people simultaneously, with 785 such instances documented. This poses a safety risk to both the riders and other road users.
Authorities also recorded 324 cases of electric scooter riders violating traffic rules while navigating the streets of St. Petersburg. Furthermore, 276 cases involved minors operating personal mobility devices, raising concerns about underage riders and their understanding of traffic laws.
The least frequent violation observed was improper scooter parking that obstructed pedestrians and other road users, with only 9 cases reported.
The City Parking Management Center has forwarded information regarding these recorded violations to scooter-sharing companies, urging them to take appropriate measures to address the issue.
