Vaccine Shortage Hits Novosibirsk Veterinary Services

Novosibirsk is experiencing a critical shortage of vaccines for cats and dogs, impacting veterinary pharmacies, clinics, and animal welfare volunteers. The issue stems from the disappearance of foreign vaccines due to stricter labeling regulations and the inability of domestic manufacturers to meet the required production volumes.

According to reports from the region, difficulties in obtaining complex vaccines for pets began in April. Specifically, veterinary professionals have reported challenges in purchasing essential vaccines like “Multifel-4” (for cats), “Leominor” (against feline leukemia), “Rabifel” (against rabies), “Biocan DHPPi+LR” (for dogs), and “Multican-6” (for dogs).

The implementation of “Honest Mark” labeling, a mandatory system starting October 2024, is cited as a contributing factor to the reduced vaccine supply.

While some veterinary pharmacies have limited stock of certain vaccines, others have completely run out of specific types, such as those against feline leukemia.

State veterinary clinics in Novosibirsk report having sufficient supplies of monovalent rabies vaccines for dogs and cats. They also claim to have the necessary supply of “Multican-4” and “Multican-6” vaccines for pets. However, there was a mention of a batch of vaccines from a biofactory supplying the Siberian Federal District and Novosibirsk being deemed non-compliant with standards.
