A Ukrainian citizen residing in St. Petersburg has been sentenced to 10 years in a strict regime colony for espionage. The Leningrad Regional Court found Ilya Bondarchuk guilty of supplying information to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) over a period of nearly a year and a half.
Bondarchuk was arrested in July of last year in St. Petersburg’s Krasnoselsky district, at the age of 32. The St. Petersburg prosecutor’s office announced the sentence on June 30th.
From March 2023 until his arrest, Bondarchuk, acting on instructions from the SBU, photographed and filmed production facilities. He also targeted “buildings, structures and the adjacent territory of one of the defense industry concerns.”
The collected materials were then transmitted to the SBU via a messenger service. The information supply was halted with Bondarchuk’s arrest.
