Following a powerful earthquake in the Pacific Ocean, a tsunami warning was issued for Hawaii, Alaska, and the Pacific coast of the United States, with the effects now being felt along those shores. The National Weather Service reported on July 30th that tidal wave movements have been recorded on California beaches and waves have washed over the shores of Hawaii.
The island of Oahu, where Honolulu is located, has announced an evacuation, with residents gradually leaving coastal areas.
US President Donald Trump warned of the potential impact in Alaska, Hawaii, and the Pacific coast. The President urged residents to “Be strong and take care of yourself!” in a message posted on social network X.
The earthquake, the strongest since 1952 in the Far East, struck earlier on July 30th. The epicenter was located in the Pacific Ocean, approximately 360 km northeast of Severo-Kurilsk, at a depth of 17 km and had a magnitude of 8.7.
Tremors were felt in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky (7-8 points) and Sakhalin (up to 5-6 points). There are reports of destruction and injuries. A state of emergency has been declared in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and the Severo-Kurilsky district of the Sakhalin region.
