A woman died in a fire in an apartment building in Novosibirsk on the night of June 7. The fire occurred on Adrien Lezhen Street in the Dzerzhinsky district.
The fire started on the fourth floor of the building. According to the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia, 30 people evacuated the building on their own.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing screams and seeing heavy smoke coming from the fifth floor (though officials say the fire originated on the fourth floor). Six fire crews and five ambulance crews responded to the scene.
A local resident, Sergey T., stated that the apartment housed a large family with four children, their grandmother, and two adults. The deceased woman was reportedly the children’s mother. Sergey T. saw two children accompanied by their father leaving the building.
One man from the apartment escaped with burns on his back but refused hospitalization. Investigators have begun an investigation to determine the cause of the fire and will make a procedural decision based on their findings.
