Two people were hospitalized and multiple vehicles were impounded after traffic police dispersed illegal drifting gatherings on Krestovsky Island over the weekend. The Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the city and region reported the incidents on Monday, June 9th.
Law enforcement intervened in two separate events, resulting in 12 cars being impounded due to suspected altered identification numbers. Authorities are investigating potential forgery, which could lead to criminal charges for the drivers involved. A moped, operated by a minor without a license, was also impounded.
Seven drivers were suspected of driving under the influence and were required to undergo medical examination.
A significant accident occurred during a race on Sunday night, leading to injuries. An 18-year-old Audi driver, attempting a maneuver, collided with a BMW driven by an 18-year-old female. The impact caused the BMW to strike two parked Chery vehicles. The female driver of the BMW and a 34-year-old female pedestrian sustained injuries and were hospitalized.
Earlier, at the end of May, inspectors had also disrupted another illegal drifting event on Krestovsky Island.
