Tick Bite Victims in St. Petersburg Exceed Leningrad Region

St. Petersburg is experiencing a higher number of individuals seeking medical assistance for tick bites compared to the Leningrad Region. From May 29 to June 4, St. Petersburg recorded 977 cases, while the Leningrad Region reported 666.

Within St. Petersburg, 143 of the 977 seeking help were children. Tick bites occurred within the city limits, affecting 13 administrative districts.

The Pushkinsky district recorded the highest number of bites (34), followed by Kurortny (18), Primorsky (15), Vyborgsky (13), and Kolpinsky, Kirovsky, and Kalininsky districts (9 each).

During the specified period, there were 3 cases of tick-borne encephalitis and 9 cases of tick-borne borreliosis (1 child) reported in St. Petersburg.

In St. Petersburg, 3,853 people have been vaccinated against tick-borne encephalitis, including 1,725 children.

In the Leningrad Region, out of the 666 individuals seeking help, 129 were children. A total of 637 people were affected across 17 administrative districts.

The Tikhvinsky district reported the highest number of tick bites (118), followed by Podporozhsky (72), Gatchinsky (71), Boksitogorsky (65), and Vsevolozhsky (64).

No cases of tick-borne infections were recorded in the Leningrad Region during the week.

In the Leningrad Region, 1,190 people were vaccinated against tick-borne encephalitis, including 383 children.

Authorities recommend completing vaccination courses against tick-borne encephalitis at least two weeks before visiting endemic areas. It is also advised to use repellents, wear closed light-colored clothing, and regularly inspect oneself, children, and animals for ticks when venturing into nature.
