The third suspect in the theft of 127 million rubles in Moscow City has been arrested and remanded in custody. The Presnensky District Court of Moscow made the ruling, charging him under Article 161, Part 3, Paragraph “b” of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which addresses robbery on a particularly large scale with violence not life-threatening or harmful to health.
The prosecutor’s office alleges that on May 25, the suspect and his accomplices attacked a courier near the Empire Tower in Moscow City. They reportedly beat the courier and stole a suitcase containing the large sum of money, after which they fled and disposed of the stolen funds.
During the arrest, officers from the Russian National Guard for Moscow encountered resistance and fired a warning shot into the air. One of the three defendants in the case has been identified as Khamid Ibragimov. All three are charged under the same article of the Criminal Code.
The defendant’s lawyer argues that the prosecution’s case rests solely on the victim’s testimony and suggests the courier may have intended to embezzle the money. The lawyer also criticized the detention as overly aggressive, stating that the suspect was merely trying to avoid a confrontation when approached by a group of people in plain clothes. She further claimed that the men injured during the detention did not receive medical assistance, and that officers were injured during the encounter.
