The “Stenograffia” Street Art Festival Begins for the 16th Time in Yekaterinburg

The annual “Stenograffia” festival has commenced in Yekaterinburg for its 16th year, bringing new works of street art to the city. The festival, which began on June 17th and will continue throughout the summer, promises a fresh wave of murals and art installations, some of which will replace existing pieces.

Anna Klets, the director of “Stenograffia,” announced that the festival will feature new works in the city center. One notable change involves the replacement of the Alexander Nevsky mural at 8 Marta Street, 13. The SPEKTR team will create a new graffiti piece at this location, although the specific design remains under wraps.

The Alexander Nevsky mural, which appeared in 2021 to commemorate the 800th anniversary of the prince’s birth, was a surprise addition to the area. The location was originally intended for a different artwork.

Several artists have already begun working on their murals. Near the “UGMK-Arena,” a long graffiti piece by Mansur Ziyaev, titled “On the Bank of This Quiet River,” is already visible.

International participation is also a highlight of this year’s festival. Antoine Guignard, an artist from Switzerland, is creating his first mural in Russia, called LPVDA, at 103 Pervomayskaya Street in Vtuzgorodok. This work will be painted on one of the area’s wooden two-story buildings.

In addition to new creations, the “Stenograffia” team will restore several existing art objects throughout Yekaterinburg. These include “Radio” in Kamennye Palatki Forest Park, “All your walls are belong to us” at 12 Tolmacheva Street, “Peace” at 3 Dobrolyubova Street, and the underpass near the Youth Theater (TUZ).

E1.RU is also participating in this season’s “Stenograffia” festival, with an art piece being created under the bridge in Academichesky. The work, tentatively titled “The Art of Being Neighbors,” explores themes of good neighborliness and relationships between people.

Yekaterinburg is widely recognized as the Russian capital of street art, boasting a wealth of captivating works.
