The “Razgovory” theater company is set to present the poetic performance “The Wail of the Lookout” on June 14th at the “Skorokhod” stage. This performance delves into the delicate terrain of youthful aspirations and disillusionments.
The project is a collaborative effort between the inclusive theater company “Razgovory” and the “Skorokhod: Generation” project.
Director Boris Pavlovich adapts Anatoly Gavrilov’s novella into a performative exploration of an existential landscape. The story centers on two teenagers who yearn to escape the oppressive atmosphere of the Russian provinces.
The performance originated from an experimental laboratory where the creators meticulously analyzed the mechanics of theatrical expression. Pavlovich is particularly interested in translating the fundamental structure of human experiences, examining how internal drives evolve into on-stage action.
Pavlovich describes the source material as unusual, noting the author’s intimate understanding of provincial yearning and vague unease, coupled with an ironic and possibly cheerful perspective. He interprets the story as a reflection on moments when life veers towards disaster, and the only recourse is grim humor and perhaps song.
The performance is scheduled to begin at 8:00 PM and is intended for audiences aged 18 and older.
