The GUM Department Store in Moscow has been transformed into a vibrant botanical garden, hosting the “Peonies of Russia” exhibition. The exhibition, which opened recently, features over 250 varieties of peonies, showcasing both classic Soviet cultivars and new creations from Russian breeders.
The historical space of GUM now displays vases filled with these diverse peony varieties around the fountain, creating a striking visual display. Visitors can admire both well-known varieties and novelties of domestic breeders.
The opening of the flower festival was attended by prominent figures, including the President of the Foundation for the Promotion of the Development of Botanical Gardens of Russia, Alexandra Shcherbakova, and the head of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, Gennady Zyuganov. Zyuganov, who identifies as a hereditary flower grower and beekeeper, shared his personal connection to horticulture, recalling how his father introduced him to beekeeping after returning from the war.
The exhibition has attracted many spectators, primarily women and gardening enthusiasts. The “Peonies of Russia” exhibition will remain open to the public until June 16.
