The Green Marathon Was Held Again in the Center of Moscow

Thousands of Muscovites participated in the annual “Green Marathon” in the heart of Moscow, running along the city’s embankments. The event, organized for the eleventh time by Sberbank, featured various distances and activities for runners of all levels.

The marathon route took participants from Vasilyevsky Descent along the embankments to Kotelnicheskaya, back to the Bolshoy Moskvoretsky Bridge, and then to Vorobyovy Gory, before finishing at the starting point. Participants could choose distances of 4.2, 10, or 21.2 kilometers, with a separate start organized for those who preferred “Nordic walking”.

Chairman of the Board of Sberbank, German Gref, also participated in the race. Following the marathon, he planted a tree in Zaryadye Park with his son.

Alexey Troshkin won the men’s race with a time of 1 hour and 7 minutes, while Yulia Konyakina won the women’s race with a time of 1 hour and 19 minutes. Konyakina expressed her satisfaction with the organization of the race and the favorable weather conditions.

One participant, an elderly man, heroically completed the 10-kilometer distance but required medical assistance at the finish line. Volunteers provided immediate care, and he is reported to be doing well.

The event was filled with positive emotions, hugs, and support among participants. Some runners even brought their children along. Timur, one of the participants, mentioned that the marathon provided a mood boost for the entire week.

Road closures implemented for the marathon were lifted, and traffic resumed on Ilyinka, Varvarka and Moskvoretskaya Street, as well as on the Bolshoy Moskvoretsky Bridge.
