A sixth-grader in a New Moscow school underwent surgery after being shot with a pneumatic pistol by teenagers on Monday, June 2. The child’s life is not in danger, and an investigation is underway.
Children’s Rights Commissioner Olga Yaroslavskaya stated that the perpetrators will be punished according to the law. She emphasized the importance of not letting such incidents go unpunished.
The incident occurred between students in grades 6, 7, and 8, with the conflict seemingly stemming from domestic issues. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
According to reports, one of the bullets struck the child’s neck, near an artery. The victim’s mother described the severity of the injuries, noting wounds to the stomach, leg, and neck.
Yaroslavskaya assured that necessary support will be provided to help the child recover physically and emotionally. She also contacted the school administration and emphasized the responsibility of adults in upbringing, urging reflection on potential educational gaps and preventative measures.
Contrary to some media reports, the Commissioner for Children’s Rights stated that bullying has not been confirmed as a factor in the incident. The police are currently handling the inspection.
