A 15-year-old girl detained for allegedly attempting to murder her newborn daughter in the Vsevolozhsky district of the Leningrad region has been released from custody without any restraining order. The Vsevolozhsk City Court rejected the Investigative Committee’s request to place her in a pre-trial detention center.
The incident occurred when the teenager, a resident of Dubrovka, reportedly gave birth to a baby girl in an apartment. She then placed the infant in a bag and threw her out of a first-floor window.
The newborn was discovered by janitors, who promptly alerted emergency services. Medical professionals confirmed that the baby is alive and has been moved from intensive care. She is currently undergoing further medical examination but has no injuries.
During questioning, the teenager admitted to understanding that the baby was alive at the time of the incident. She claimed that the birth was unexpected, stating she was unaware of her pregnancy and delivered the baby in the toilet.
The Investigative Committee has formally charged the girl with attempted murder. Following her initial detention on June 6, the court extended her detention for 72 hours before ultimately releasing her without any restrictions. Under the Code of Criminal Procedure, after the court’s refusal, the suspect’s freedom can be restricted by a travel ban.
