A teenager in Yekaterinburg has been sentenced to nine and a half years in a penal colony for the murder of his 14-year-old girlfriend, her 61-year-old mother, and their small dog. The crime occurred in the Sortirovka district in November 2023.
Denis (name changed), who was 16 at the time of the murders, was found sane and guilty of double murder. The father of the murdered girl and Denis’s sister were present at the sentencing.
According to investigators, Denis visited his girlfriend, Diana (name changed), at her apartment on November 13, 2023. An argument ensued, reportedly triggered by jealousy over Diana’s communication with Denis’s older brother.
The situation escalated, with Denis forcing Diana to undress before stabbing her multiple times in the neck and chest. After killing Diana, he then killed her dog, a Spitz named Mikey, who began barking at him.
He then hid in the pantry and waited for Diana’s mother to return home. Upon her arrival and discovery of her daughter’s body, Denis attacked her, inflicting 15 stab wounds.
After the murders, Denis stole the victims’ phones and a bank card, withdrawing just over 20,000 rubles. A friend who helped him withdraw the money, unaware of the murders, later alerted Denis’s brother, potentially preventing further harm.
Friends of the couple reported that Denis was prone to jealousy and had previously been physically violent towards Diana. Diana’s mother disapproved of their relationship, and Denis reportedly expressed hatred towards her.
Prior to the murders, Denis had a history of theft, accumulating multiple charges and receiving sentences of mandatory work and a fine.
At the sentencing, Denis expressed remorse but did not elaborate on the reasons for his actions. The victims’ relatives requested the strictest possible punishment.
In addition to the prison sentence, Denis will be required to compensate the victims’ family for moral and property damage.
