Two teenage boys were rescued from the Neva River after their inflatable mattress deflated, leaving them stranded. The incident occurred in the village of Saperny the night before June 11th.
The boys, who were out on the river on the inflatable mattress, found themselves in trouble when the mattress deflated near a destroyed pier. Unable to get back to shore, they sent out a distress signal.
EMERCOM (the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations) personnel responded to the call and successfully pulled the teenagers ashore.
One of the boys, a 13-year-old, was hospitalized with hypothermia. He is currently in intensive care and is reported to be in moderately severe condition.
