Teacher Shortage Reported in the Urals

The Sverdlovsk region is currently facing a shortage of nearly 300 teachers, with 43 vacancies specifically in Yekaterinburg. The most pressing needs are for educators in mathematics, Russian language and literature, English, and physics.

To address this shortfall, a proposal has been put forth to allow university students specializing in relevant subjects to teach in schools. These students, having completed at least three years of their degree and undergone pedagogical retraining, could potentially fill these critical roles. The initiative has received initial approval.

The most significant shortages are reported in mathematics (11 positions), Russian language and literature (4 positions), English (6 positions) and physics (5 positions). The situation reflects a broader trend of personnel shortages across various sectors in Russia, although a decrease in overall demand is expected this year.

The public is invited to share their experiences and insights regarding the challenges of working as a teacher, with assurances of anonymity. This call for information aims to shed light on the underlying factors contributing to the teacher shortage and explore potential solutions.
