A suspect has been detained in Krasnoyarsk in connection with the attempted murder of a security guard that occurred 32 years ago in St. Petersburg. Irina Volk, an official representative of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, announced the arrest on Friday, May 30.

The crime took place in June 1993 at a hotel restaurant in Vyborg. The investigation involved recreating the events of that day, which led police to a suspect residing in Krasnoyarsk.

On June 9, 1993, the suspect and an accomplice visited the hotel restaurant on Zheleznodorozhnaya Street in Vyborg. An argument broke out between the intoxicated men and the security guards. Police officers intervened and stopped the conflict.

The men left the restaurant, vowing revenge. The suspect’s friend allegedly attacked one of the guards with a pike, resulting in the guard’s death. The suspect then allegedly shot at the second guard, but the gun malfunctioned, and the guard evaded the bullets. The two men then fled the scene.

A criminal case was opened the following day. The accomplice who allegedly killed the guard died in 1998 and will not face criminal charges.
