A 21-year-old man from Tuva has been detained at the Novosibirsk airport in connection with the stabbing of a 19-year-old college student in Kuzbass. The suspect was apprehended as he attempted to board a flight to Novy Urengoy.
The incident occurred on the night of May 29 when the student reported to Kemerovo police that he had been stabbed in the chest by an unidentified individual. The victim was immediately hospitalized for treatment of his wound.
According to police reports, the student was standing on the porch of his dormitory when he was approached by a man drinking beer. The interaction escalated from a conversation into a verbal dispute and then into a physical altercation. The suspect allegedly produced a folding knife and stabbed the student in the chest before discarding the weapon and fleeing the scene.
Law enforcement officials were able to identify the suspect, who had no prior criminal record. A criminal case has been opened against him under Article 111, Part 2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which pertains to the intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm. He is currently being held in custody as a preventive measure.
