A student in the Vsevolozhsky district of the Leningrad region was caught using “smart glasses” to photograph exam materials during the Unified State Exam (EGE) for social studies and Russian language. The graduate’s exam results have been canceled, and they will not be allowed to retake the exam on reserve days.

The student allegedly used the glasses to capture images of the exam and send them to individuals who could provide answers. The answers were then reportedly received through an earpiece. Footage of the exam materials circulated widely on social media prior to the incident being addressed.

The Education Committee of the Leningrad Region confirmed that all measures have been taken regarding the filming and posting of videos with tasks.

The incident raises concerns about the difficulty in detecting such devices, as “smart glasses” closely resemble ordinary eyewear. Examiners may have been unaware of the technology and therefore did not recognize the accessory as a potential cheating device. The glasses feature built-in headphones in the temple, making the audio undetectable to others.

This year, nearly 500 graduates have been expelled from the Unified State Exam. Approximately half of these expulsions were due to the use of crib sheets.
