Street Vendor Raid in St. Petersburg Results in Seizure of Goods

A raid targeting unauthorized street vendors in the central district of St. Petersburg resulted in the seizure of goods valued at 1.5 million rubles. The operation, conducted on June 5th, was carried out by the Committee on Law and Order with the support of police officers, the Committee for Control over Property, and district administration employees.

During the inspection, authorities identified multiple unauthorized sales points, including two selling fruits and vegetables, 13 selling flowers, and three selling souvenirs. Over 400 kilograms of fruits and vegetables were confiscated during the raid.

As a result of the operation, 18 protocols were issued against the sellers under Article 44 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of St. Petersburg. The seized goods, exceeding 1.5 million rubles in value, were transported to a temporary storage warehouse.

Authorities noted that some of the vendors were repeat offenders. In one instance, officers returned to a location an hour after the initial inspection to find that the vendor had fled, leaving their goods behind. Despite the vendor’s escape, a second protocol will be issued against them, as their identity had previously been established.

The Committee on Law and Order emphasized that these raids will continue throughout the city. Officials clarified that the vendors were being targeted because they were operating from carts in the same locations daily and were therefore considered non-stationary trading objects, occupying city land without proper authorization.
