Stray Pigs Overrun Ural City of Revda

The city of Revda in the Ural region of Russia is grappling with a significant increase in its stray pig population. The number of wandering piglets now exceeds the number of stray dogs, leading to widespread disruptions and complaints from residents.

These uncontrolled pigs are commonly found scavenging in garbage dumps, sleeping in public areas like sandboxes and under apartment balconies, and causing damage to urban landscaping such as flower beds and courtyards.

Residents report that the pigs have escaped from a local farmer, Anatoly, and are roaming freely throughout the city. In 2024, a court order prohibited Anatoly from allowing his pigs to leave his farm, yet the problem persists, with residents observing a further increase in the pig population.

Anatoly denies responsibility for the stray pigs, claiming that his own animals are safely contained on his property. He has also refused to compensate drivers for vehicle damage caused by the pigs, leading to further frustration among residents.

The prosecutor’s office is planning an inspection of Anatoly’s farm to investigate his alleged non-compliance with the court order. The aim is to determine the source of the stray pigs and enforce measures to control their population within the city.
