Strawberry Moon Obscured by Clouds in St. Petersburg

St. Petersburg residents faced cloudy conditions on the night of June 10th to 11th, hindering the visibility of the Strawberry Moon. Despite the weather, some individuals managed to catch a glimpse of the setting full moon.

The June full moon, known as the Strawberry Moon, is the year’s lowest. Its low position on the horizon causes light refraction, resulting in a red or golden color. This effect also makes the moon appear larger than usual.

The name “Strawberry Moon” is attributed to Native American tribes in North America. They used this name because the full moon coincided with the start of the strawberry harvesting season.
