A storm warning has been issued for the Sverdlovsk region of Russia for June 15th and 16th due to expectations of extremely heavy rains, thunderstorms, hail, and squally winds reaching up to 25 meters per second. Residents are urged to take precautions to ensure their safety during this period of severe weather.
Rescuers are advising residents to avoid outdoor activities such as hiking, working at heights, and generally being outside. Homeowners are encouraged to prepare their storm drains in anticipation of heavy rainfall.
Those caught outside during hail are advised to seek shelter immediately. If shelter is unavailable, individuals should protect their heads with their hands, bags, or clothing. It is crucial to avoid taking cover under trees or near light structures, buildings, bridges, overpasses, power lines, and construction sites. Anyone on a body of water should immediately move away from the shore if a thunderstorm begins.
When at home during a thunderstorm, residents should close all windows, doors, chimneys, and vents. It is important to stay away from electrical wiring, lightning rods, roof drains, and antennas. People should also avoid standing near windows and, if possible, turn off electrical appliances during lightning strikes.
Drivers caught in heavy rain are advised to pull over to the side of the road or into a parking lot, away from trees, and wait out the storm with windows closed, remaining inside their vehicles.
Incidents should be reported to emergency services by calling 101 or 112.
