Staying Cool on Novosibirsk Public Transportation: Tips for Surviving the Heat

As Novosibirsk grapples with summer temperatures reaching +30 degrees Celsius, public transport users are seeking relief from the heat. The Novosibirsk Mayor’s office has acknowledged that most public transport lacks air conditioning.

To combat the discomfort, NGS (Novosibirsk News) suggests several affordable and practical items to help commuters stay cool. These include handheld fans, cooling collars, cooling patches, and water bottles with ice molds.

Handheld fans are a popular and diverse option, with prices ranging from a few hundred to several thousand rubles. Models with combined fan and power bank features, aromatherapy options, and neck-hanging designs are available online.

Cooling collars, priced around 380 rubles on platforms like Ozon, offer a way to cool the neck and relieve headaches. They contain a gel that can be frozen for 15-20 minutes and provide cooling for up to four hours.

Cooling patches, available for 339 rubles for a pack of 10, are marketed as a solution for heatstroke, headaches, high temperatures, and drowsiness. The patches are said to provide relief for up to eight hours.

Water bottles with built-in ice molds are a practical way to keep drinks cold for longer. These bottles are available on online marketplaces for around 540 to 622 rubles.

Other options include traditional hand fans, facial sprays and toners for heat relief and skincare, and affordable wet wipes.

The Novosibirsk Mayor’s office recommends utilizing hatches and windows on public transport to help regulate the temperature.
