Statue in St. Petersburg Niche Vandalized Again

A statue of a youth in St. Petersburg’s Petrogradsky district has been vandalized again, with its head now covered in a bag secured with zip ties. This incident follows a previous act of vandalism where a colorful head, made of a plasticine-like material, was attached to the statue.

The “Otlichny Peterburg” Telegram channel reported that the colorful molding is still visible beneath the bag. The Committee for State Control, Use and Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments of St. Petersburg has stated that they will announce the statue’s future soon.

This is not the first time the statue has been targeted. In 2017, the gypsum sculpture’s head was torn off by a vandal who was later apprehended, found guilty of damaging a cultural heritage site, and sentenced to community service. The original gypsum head is currently stored at the St. Petersburg Center for Cultural Heritage.

The Kirillov house, where the statue is located, was designated a regional monument in March 2024, officially recognizing it as an object of regional cultural heritage.
