The Governor of St. Petersburg, Alexander Beglov, has ordered the installation of a fence along the Linear Park embankments to ensure public safety, particularly for children playing near the water. The decision follows concerns about people potentially falling or jumping into the water, as well as swimming in unauthorized areas.
The proposed fence may take the form of chains or another suitable design. This initiative aims to prevent accidents and enforce regulations against swimming outside designated areas, which can result in warnings or fines.
Linear Park, lauded by Beglov as a successful urban improvement project, is undergoing further development. The third phase of its improvement is scheduled for this year, focusing on enhancing pedestrian access and connectivity to surrounding areas. This includes creating a pedestrian street to “Primorka” and linking the park to the reclaimed territories, creating a unified and attractive space for walking.
The park already features a light and music fountain, one of the largest in the city, comparable to the one in Kolpino.
Enhanced security measures are also planned for all parks in St. Petersburg, including Linear Park, due to its proximity to transport infrastructure like the WHSD and the seaport. These measures include high-quality lighting, video surveillance, and the installation of “panic buttons”. The development of Linear Park was previously met with resistance from businessmen seeking to build a residential complex on the site, a project that was ultimately rejected due to public opposition and the city’s stance.
