St. Petersburg authorities will implement new restrictions on street vending starting July 1, according to a draft decree issued by the governor.
The decree, published on June 3, outlines specific areas where street vending will be prohibited. These restricted zones, designated by the Committee on Industrial Policy, aim to enhance security measures.
The prohibited areas include locations within 100 meters of metro stations and within 50 meters of educational institutions. Similar restrictions apply near cultural, healthcare, and sports facilities, with a 25-meter buffer from the entrance if the institution has a fenced territory.
Furthermore, street vending will be banned within 50 meters of public transport stops, pedestrian and underground crossings, and on public roads of regional significance. The restrictions also encompass pedestrian areas, public green spaces, building arches, lawns, flower beds, landscaped playgrounds, and recreation areas.
The authorities cite security concerns as the primary reason for these restrictions, referencing the decree of the President of the Russian Federation dated October 19, 2022, No. 756. The move follows reports of increased unregulated street vending in central areas like Nevsky Prospekt.
