A 65-year-old resident of St. Petersburg was detained after threatening to blow up the Smolny building due to a lack of hot water. The incident occurred amidst the ongoing hydraulic testing season, which often leads to temporary utility disruptions.
On June 2nd, the man contacted the main police department via the 112 emergency service, stating his intent to bomb the Smolny building if his hot water was not restored. Law enforcement took the threats seriously and dispatched an officer from the criminal investigation department to the man’s residence.
The individual was apprehended at his home, located at house number 14, building 2. He was subsequently taken to the 33rd police department, where he was booked for petty hooliganism and placed in a holding cell.
Following the threat, the Smolny building, which houses the city’s government, was thoroughly inspected. Authorities confirmed that no explosive devices were found on the premises.
Currently, authorities are determining whether to initiate a criminal case against the St. Petersburg resident for making the threat. The investigation is ongoing.
