St. Petersburg Resident Detained for Passport Desecration

A St. Petersburg woman has been placed in pre-trial detention for allegedly desecrating her Russian passport in a video filmed by a friend. The Smolninsky District Court ordered the detention of Olga Bryntseva until July 28, following a request from investigators.

Bryntseva, 22, is accused of filming a video on May 28 at a bus stop near the “Metro Ploshchad Alexandra Nevskogo” station, in which her friend urinated on her passport. The act included desecration of the coat of arms depicted on the document. Bryntseva reportedly admitted to authorities that she was the one who suggested posting the video online.

The woman who allegedly urinated on the passport has also been detained and faces additional charges. Besides criminal hooliganism, she is accused of violating Article 329 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to “Abuse of the State Emblem of the Russian Federation.”

Bryntseva, who is registered in the Nevsky district, was apprehended in Kudrovo by officers from Center “E.” During a search of her apartment, authorities seized scales and a plant substance, which have been submitted for analysis.
