St. Petersburg is bracing for significant rainfall after experiencing its warmest day in June. The city’s chief meteorologist, Alexander Kolesov, announced on June 17th that rain is imminent and will soon encompass the entire city.
Monday marked a notable weather event, with an average daily air temperature of +19.0 degrees Celsius, a level usually observed in early July. This made it the warmest day recorded in St. Petersburg for the month of June.
Simultaneously, St. Petersburg reached half the monthly norm for both precipitation and sunny hours by Monday evening, a rare occurrence. The city has already seen almost 35 mm of rainfall and 127 hours of sunshine.
Looking ahead, Thursday, June 19th, is expected to bring the most substantial rainfall due to the arrival of a cyclone. The forecast predicts cloudy conditions and continued rain for the coming days, suggesting that June will likely be less sunny overall compared to the past five years.
Today’s weather will remain overcast with light rain, maintaining an air temperature of around 19 degrees Celsius. Wednesday, however, is expected to be relatively pleasant, with minimal rainfall anticipated in the evening and a temperature of +20 degrees Celsius.
