A St. Petersburg-based blogger, known for his vines under the alias “El Capitan,” has been detained on suspicion of illegal drug trafficking. The arrest occurred after a police raid on his apartment, which was partially captured on a live stream.
The Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region reported that officers discovered approximately 8.9 grams of mephedrone during a search of the apartment on the Petrograd side.
The 38-year-old blogger’s subscribers witnessed the beginning of the raid during a music stream on the night of June 13. The broadcast was abruptly cut short after sounds of a disturbance and shouts of “On the floor! Police!” were heard. The recording of the incident has since garnered thousands of views.
The blogger, born in 1986, is suspected of involvement in illegal drug trafficking activities dating back to April of this year. He is currently being held in custody and is under investigation.
A case has been initiated under Article 228.1 of the Criminal Code, which addresses the illegal production, sale, or transfer of narcotic drugs.
“El Capitan” gained significant popularity for his short, humorous videos. He had amassed a large following on Instagram, with approximately two million followers and individual videos exceeding 2.5 million views. However, his audience has since decreased, with around 30,000 users following his Telegram channel.
