St. Olaf’s Tower Observation Deck in Vyborg Reopens After Restoration

The observation deck of St. Olaf’s Tower in Vyborg is set to reopen to the public on June 11 after five years of restoration work. The Leningrad Region administration announced the reopening, inviting visitors to once again enjoy panoramic views of the city from a height of 50 meters.

The restored tower features historical brickwork, enhanced lighting, and a spacious staircase. Accessibility has also been improved with the addition of a panoramic elevator for individuals with limited mobility, available by appointment.

The “Vyborg United Museum-Reserve” emphasized that the restoration has preserved the tower’s historical essence while ensuring a comfortable and safe experience for visitors.

During the initial reopening phase, from June 11 to June 14, the observation deck will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The administration noted this is a test opening, and the permanent operating schedule will be announced subsequently.

St. Olaf’s Tower, a key landmark in Vyborg and the only medieval donjon in Russia, originally opened earlier this year but was closed for restoration in the spring of 2021. Its construction dates back to at least the 13th century, with a reconstruction into an artillery tower in the 16th century.
