Source of Untreated Wastewater Found Polluting Leningrad Region Rivers

The State Environmental Supervision Committee (Gosekonadzor) has identified Idavang-Agro agricultural enterprise as the source of untreated wastewater contaminating the Igolinka and Voytolovka rivers in the Leningrad Region. This discovery follows reports of dead fish and foul odors emanating from the Voytolovka River.

Supervisory authorities found a pipe originating from Idavang-Agro, along with a partially soil-covered melioration canal, both discharging into the Igolinka River, which then flows into the Voytolovka. The water in the canal exhibited a strong smell of organic fertilizers and contained dark suspensions, confirming the discharge of untreated wastewater.

In response, Gosekonadzor has notified Rosprirodnadzor and Rosselkhoznadzor of the violation. Ramila Agaeva, head of the committee, anticipates swift action from federal agencies to restore the ecological balance in the affected area. The inspection of the Voytolovka River in the Kirovsky district was initiated in early June after media reports, citing eyewitnesses, highlighted the presence of dead fish and an offensive odor in the water.
